A reuniao (meeting)

Ola!

So this week we had a really cool experience! We had a missionary meeting with all the missionaries in the WKM. And the exciting part? Elder M. Russell Ballard, Elder Richard J. Maynes (of the 70) and Elder Resume (area 70) spoke to us! It was amazing! They talked a lot about working with the members, which has been a theme my entire mission. One thing that Elder Ballard said was- "when you shake hands with someone, look them in the eye, smile, people can feel that you have something special." I thought that was interesting. So that is what I am working on now. I learned so much from this meeting, I wish I had more time to tell you about it!

I have also been a little bit humbled this week. We were complaining about not having the car on Sunday because it was cold and raining. Then a thought came to my mind- at least you have the car a few days during the week. Our district leader and his companion don't have a car ever. Then we had some of our investigators come to church and they were sitting in different parts of the chapel and it was a little stressful. But then I had another thought- your investigators are coming to church, that is what you wanted. Its little things like that that really make me realize how blessed I really am. I am so grateful that I am a missionary!

Well I hope you all have a great week! Keep on smiling, I love you!

A conferencia de zona

Ola!

So this week went so fast...probably since P-day was on Wednesday last week.

We had zone conference this week. It was so good and I learned a lot.
The main focus was working with the members and how we can get them
excited to share the gospel. One thing our mission president asked us
to do was what is called a 40 day fast. So we get rid of things in our
life that are distracting us from been the best missionaries we can
be. President Ware told us that he had been a little distracted lately
and it really affected how he was working. One thing he said was- "you
cannot have one foot in the Lord's work and one foot in distraction."
I think that is so true. We are a lot more effective when we are fully
focused on serving the Lord and the people we are around. The cool
thing to is the 40 day fast ends around Thanksgiving.

At zone conference we also divided into groups for different classes.
One of them was a game of jepordy with general conference quotes and
scriptures. I was the only sister on my team and sister Ware was
sitting in the room to observe. Well Sister Ware must like me a little
bit because although she didnt directly tell me any answers she did
look at my conference notes and would nod her head when I was on the
right page so I could find the person who said the quote. The Ware's
are awesome, I'm glad I got to see them.

Our investigator Angie came to church again on Sunday and she brought
her brother! They both liked the meeting and are planning on coming
next week.

Well I hope everyone has a great week! Keep on smiling, I love you all!

Week 26

October 16, 2013

I Love to see the temple!

Oi! Tudo Bem?!

Well this week went pretty well, we had some good things happen.

On Sunday we had 2 investigators come to church for the first time
ever! So it was a lady named Angie and then a man named Ted and his 3
grandkids. They both enjoyed it, which was awesome! It was probably
the most stressful Sunday on my mission so far. Both Sister Love and I
were praying so hard that our investigators would like church, that
they would feel the spirit and that the speakers would give good
talks. Heavenly Father definitely answers prayers because it went
really well and they all loved church!

I also hit my 6 month mark! So crazy...its gone so fast!

We got to go to the temple today and that was so great. And we have
zone conference tomorrow, so this week is full of spiritual goodness!
Going to the temple makes P-days a little bit crazy but its definitely
worth it and something I needed.

Well I hope you all have a great week! Keep on smiling :)

P.S.- pictures. Our zone at the temple. Sister Love and I with Sister
Black (the members we live with) she drove all of the sisters in our
zone to the temple.

I Love General Conference

Ola!

How's everyone doing? This week was alright. I'm getting to know
Yakima a little bit better, which is good.

Wasnt general conference so good?! I loved it! We were challenged by
our mission president to bring questions to conference and its kind of
cool because some of my questions got answered. We had been wondering
what to do in our area and the answer...work with the members more. So
we are going to try to do that. One thing I loved was Elder Holland
said- "we are infinitely more than our limitations." I think I need to
focus on that more often.

I cant believe it has been a year since the announcement was made
about the changing the age at which missionaries can serve. I am so
grateful that I decided to serve a mission almost exactly a year ago.
I cant imagine being anywhere else than on a mission right now. Being
a missionary is the best!

So there is a family here- the Ricks, who have fed us twice in the 2
weeks I've been here. They are also one of the only families that
knows I'm a visa waiter. So we ate with them on Tuesday and right
before we left Sister Ricks says they have a gift for both of us. They
gave Sister Love a box of lemonade (her favorite drink) and they gave
my a can of hot chocolate mix...so I don't freeze ha ha. They are a
great family :)

Well I cant really think of anything else. Oh! Before I forget...next
week we get to go to the temple! So I wont be emailing until
Wednesday. Have a great week and keep on smiling :)

Week 24

Yakkima

Oi!

Well this week was a little bit crazy with being transferred to
Yakima. So far Yakima is great. My companion is Sister Love, she likes
to work hard so things should go well I'm hoping :)

I don't know if any of you watched the general relief society
broadcast, but it was sooo good! I loved how President Monson made his
talk fit for all women, no matter what stage of life. One thing he
said that I really liked was- "your Heavenly Father loves you, loves
each of you. It never changes." I think thats a good thing to
remember. It seems like everyone is always changing but the constant
thing in our lives can be that Heavenly Father does love us. It amazes
me that He loves us even though we make so many mistakes but I'm sure
grateful that He does.

So in my new area we share a car with another set of sisters which
means....we walk a lot! I like walking but it does make my feet hurt.
But anyways the members here are awesome and so willing to help us and
give us rides. We didn't have the car one day and we were walking back
from the church building (about a mile from our house) it was almost 9
and it was raining. So as we were walking a big van drives past us and
then pulls over. It turns out its a member of our bishopric and his
wife. So they gave us a ride to our house. It was so nice of them and
was definietly a tender mercy that day.

Well I hope you all have a great week! Keep on smiling :)

Week 23 Good bye Kennewick

September 23, 2013

Despedir-se de Kennewick

Oi!

So guess what?! I'm leaving Kennewick...no I did not get my visa but I am getting transferred to Yakima. Its a little bitter sweet to leave since I've been here since May but I am excited. I think the hardest part is saying goodbye to some of the people I've gotten to know really well. But I know Yakima will be just as great as Kennewick :)

I cant remember if I told you about our investigator Vanessa (we took her on a church tour a few weeks ago), but we had a cool experience with her this week. We had a lesson with her yesterday and before it even started she tells us that the Bible study class she had been going to at another church isn't as good as it used to be. She just doesn't like it and loves going to our church. She also told us she is already in 2 Nephi, and that all she wants to do in her free time is read the Book of Mormon! That was so awesome! Its amazing how some people are so prepared to accept the gospel and I am so grateful that I had the chance to help teach her. I would not be surprised if she is baptized soon. I think one of the greatest things about being a missionary is seeing peoples lives change as they accept the gospel. I can definitely feel the joy that the missionaries in the Book of Mormon say they have when someone accepts the gospel...its amazing :)

We had a little bit of an emergency this week. Remember when I ended up in the ER because of an allergic reaction? Well... that family signed up to feed us again on Wednesday and so we called to confirm the appointment and she says that she is going to make pancakes again and that feeding the missionaries pancakes is going to be her new tradition. AHHHH! So after a little bit of thought and me saying I am not eating gluten-free-almond- meal-pancakes-of-death a few times we ended up deciding to do exchanges. So we called the sister training leader and she agreed. I went to her area with her companion and she came with Sister Harris. I am so glad that worked out because I just really didn't feel like using an epipen or going to the ER again this week ha ha.

Well I hope everyone is having a great week! I am so excited for the womens session of general conference this weekend...tell me your favorite part if you watch it. Keep on smiling :)

P.S.- Pictures: Sister Harris and I. The other one is me, Sister Harris, Sister Gubler, and Sister Zinc. We had a meeting and then we all ended up at Subway (we get it free) and no one had planned it. So we ate lunch together at the church building by the temple. It was fun :) (Despedir-se de Kennewick= farewell to Kennewick)

Week 22

September 16, 2013

Ugly sweaters

Hello there everyone!

Well this week flew by...seriously I have no idea where it went!

So I've heard that a lot of people are having bad weather...well guess what?! We had a big storm yesterday too...it was awesome. It hit right after we got to our dinner appointment. The family we ate with lives on the side of a hill and we got to watch as the storm rolled over the hill, so cool...then their electricity went off ha ha. So we ate dinner in the dark, then sang song girls camp songs with their family. It was fun :)

Saturday was our stakes service day and they put on a huge swap meet, open to the whole community. So all the missionaries in our stake were asked to help with it. We got there at 8:30 and were busy the whole morning. Well at one point things were starting to slow down a little bit and so I suggested we have an ugly sweater contest. So all of us sisters found ugly sweater...you should have seen the elders faces when we asked them to take a pictures. It was fun and a much needed break from helping all morning.

We also had zone meeting this week and it was great. One thing that was said was- "you sacrificed 2 years (or 18 months) in your life, make good use of it." This has made me reevaluate my mission and my work ethic. I am definitely going to work harder and make the most of my mission!

This is kind of long, sorry about that. I hope everyone has a great week...keep on smiling!
